TD Minus 33 Days and counting...

(Yes that is my hand over the lens...) Amazing day up on Koocanusa! I had been hearing about the ride up-and-over to Yaak. I hadn't been that way since the road was paved - like 20 years ago.

Anyway, it finally felt like spring, at least down on the lake. It was pretty chilly up at 5,000'. Great day for a climb, no traffic and just a few other cyclists on the road.

Just one problem... Up at 5,000' (about 1,000' below the pass into the Yaak) the road was impassable due to snow pack. I guess they don't keep this route open through the winter...

Oh well - I climbed as far as I could twice plus a pretty good Forest Service side road climb so all-in-all I ended up with about 6,000' of climbing. Almost a typical day on the Tour Divide, and my biggest day so far this spring. But - still no weight on the bike. I guess one of these days I'm going to have to load it up and see what it feels like.

I did see a couple hard-core looking road bikers, and one was doing multiple climbs as well. I made one complete circuit and passed him in the same place on my second lap, so I felt pretty good about that. In fact he looked a little surprised to see me the second time around when he said "G'day".
