I'm going to back up a few days to March 13, Day T-92, which could really be considered "Day 1" of the countdown. Prior to that Sportsman Ski Haus had generously agreed to sponsor my ride, in support of my fund raising efforts for the Flathead Valley Ski Education Foundation and the Ski Heritage Center Museum of Skiing.
The sponsorship program started with a bike fitting session with Shop Manager Matt Butterfield, utilizing their new "Retul" bike fitting system. (Check it out at www.retul.com) This is an amazing system that measures everything and leaves nothing to chance. From flexibility tests to high-tech computer analysis of pedal strokes, everything is analyzed. Being one of those riders that has always just "jumped on the bike and ridden", this was all new and very fascinating to me - and resulted in considerable changes to my set-up. Last September I had switched from an old aluminum Rocky Mountain 26 to a Specialized Stump Jumper Carbon 29er, and the set-up was pretty much just transferred over and I "jumped on and rode". I thought the Retul changes would take some getting used to, but within the first mile of my first ride I fealt like I was on a custom bike that had been built just for me!
I would recommend the Retul fitting system at Sportsman for anyone that rides a bike more than a few miles at a time or a few times a year. You will be amazed!
